Rachel & Luke’s Fun-Filled Wedding at The Shack Revolution, Hereford

There are some weddings where you can tell from the very beginning that the day is going to be full of personality, laughter and a whole lot of love.

Rachel and Luke’s wedding at The Shack Revolution in Hereford was exactly that.

With 88 guests joining them during the day and 120 celebrating with them in the evening, their wedding was all about the people who mattered most. They wanted a day that felt fun, relaxed and as loving as possible — and, most importantly, they were excited about one thing above everything else: actually being married.

And honestly, you could feel that throughout the day.

As a Hereford wedding photographer, these are the kind of weddings I love photographing — days where the focus is on enjoying yourselves, spending time with the people you love and letting the day unfold naturally.

Getting Ready at The Green Dragon Hotel

The morning began at The Green Dragon Hotel in Hereford, where Rachel was getting ready alongside her three bridesmaids and her mum.

Rather than worrying about having everything perfectly posed or staged, Rachel’s main request for her getting-ready photographs was simply “the enjoyment.”

And that’s exactly what I love about photographing the morning of a wedding.

The little moments of excitement, the laughter, the nerves, the people around you and all those tiny details that you might not notice in the moment become part of the story of your wedding day.

Rachel and Luke had told me that family and the details of the day were particularly important to them, so there was plenty to look forward to capturing.

From the flowers and wedding details to the hugs, laughter and anticipation before heading to the ceremony, the morning was all about soaking up those final moments before everything changed.

Saying “I Do” at The Shack Revolution

The ceremony took place at The Shack Revolution, Bastion Mews, Hereford — the same venue where the celebrations would continue afterwards.

Rachel had one particularly important moment she wanted me to capture: Luke’s face as she arrived.

Those reactions are one of my favourite parts of a wedding day.

You can spend months planning every detail, but when one person finally sees the other walking towards them, everything else tends to disappear for a moment.

For Rachel and Luke, their four children were also a huge part of the day. They specifically wanted their children and family to be at the heart of their photographs, including capturing the kids’ speeches during the service.

This wasn’t simply about two people getting married. It was about bringing their family together and celebrating with the people they love most.

A Fun and Relaxed Wedding Full of Personality

If there was one thing that was clear about Rachel and Luke’s wedding, it was that their personalities were everywhere.

They had planned plenty to keep their guests entertained and well fed, including candy floss, a serve-yourself tuk tuk, Beefy Boys burgers and Pizza Heaven.

Because why choose between burgers and pizza when you can have both?

There was music, dancing, food, family, friends and plenty of reasons for everyone to get involved and enjoy themselves.

It was exactly the kind of relaxed wedding atmosphere that allows everyone to forget about the camera and simply enjoy being together.

And that’s something I always aim for with my documentary-style wedding photography. I want you to remember how your wedding felt, not just how it looked.

Family Was at the Heart of the Day

When Rachel and Luke completed their wedding questionnaire, one of the things that came through most strongly was how important their family and friends were to them.

They wanted photographs with their four children, both sets of parents, siblings and their families, grandparents, bridesmaids, groomsmen and wider family.

They also had friends who had travelled to celebrate with them, including Renata and Tom, who they particularly wanted captured.

There were lots of combinations they wanted photographed, but the most important people they didn’t want me to miss were simple:

Them and their children.

I always think these photographs are worth making time for.

Yes, your wedding day is about the two of you, but it is also about the people who have helped shape your lives and the people standing beside you as you begin this next chapter.

The group photographs don’t have to take over your wedding day. With a little organisation — and some helpful teenagers and best men to round everyone up! — we can get the important photographs done efficiently before getting everyone back to enjoying themselves.

“We’re Quite Awkward”

When I asked Rachel and Luke if there were any insecurities or preferences I should know about when it came to their couple photographs, their answer was brilliantly relatable:

“We are quite awkward.”

And honestly?

That’s absolutely fine.

You don’t need to know how to pose.

You don’t need to be comfortable in front of a camera.

And you definitely don’t need to suddenly become models for the afternoon.

My approach to relaxed wedding photography is to give you enough direction that you don’t have to worry about what to do with your hands, where to stand or whether you’re “doing it right”.

I’ll guide you when you need it, but I also want you to have space to simply be together.

The aim is to capture the two of you as you actually are — the laughs, the little looks, the closeness and those moments where you forget I’m even there.

Because those are often the photographs that mean the most.

The Details That Made Their Day Theirs

Rachel and Luke told me that details were particularly important to them, and their wedding had plenty of them.

From the flowers by Mariana Flowers, to Rachel’s dress from Riverside Brides, Kurt Geiger shoes, suits from Tuxedo Junction and their cake from Bryn Arwel Cakes, every little choice helped create the feel of their day.

Then there were the details that were all about having fun — Partyfloss, the food, the music and Alicia Hooper singing.

These are the things that make a wedding personal.

It’s not necessarily about having the biggest or most elaborate wedding. It’s about choosing things that feel like you.

Why Rachel & Luke Chose Me

One of the loveliest things Rachel and Luke told me was that they chose me because they had loved my work at another wedding.

Being chosen by a couple who have seen you working at someone else’s wedding is such a special compliment.

It means they haven’t just chosen you because of a pretty portfolio image. They’ve seen something of the way you photograph real people, real moments and real weddings.

Rachel and Luke didn’t want a wedding that felt overly formal or staged.

They wanted fun.

They wanted relaxed.

They wanted love.

They wanted their children and families at the centre of it.

And they wanted to actually enjoy being married.

From the excitement of getting ready at The Green Dragon Hotel, to Rachel walking towards Luke at The Shack Revolution, the family photographs, the food, the candy floss and everything in between, their wedding was filled with the people and details that made it uniquely theirs.

And those are the weddings I love photographing most.

The ones where you can put the camera down for a moment, look around and know that everyone is exactly where they want to be.
